Use Good Marketing Strategy!
by Susan Reynolds

Just the other day I became aware of an organization that had put a strong marketing program in place, only to abandon it just as it was beginning to have positive impact! So what are you doing with your job search? Have you put a strong marketing plan in place? Are you “working it” diligently and systematically? Or have you thrown up your hands in frustration, and bailed out?

First we’d better determine whether you are in fact implementing a positive or flawed marketing strategy. Those of you who have read my articles consistently know that I do not consider “pressing the send button” to be a strong marketing concept. Many job searchers are profoundly frustrated by the lack of productive job postings on the Internet. So many listings are less than impressive, and might not even be truly open jobs.

Most any marketing communications professional is going to advise an organization that a marketing strategy must be researched, targeted, multifaceted, correctly funded, and monitored. Given that an effective job search is absolutely the personal equivalent of marketing a company; the same checklist must be in place. Map out a project and pound away at it, day in, day out. If you pursue a bad marketing strategy, shame on you. If you abandon a good marketing strategy before it’s had a chance to work, shame on you. If you tenaciously work a well planned marketing strategy, you will ultimately be rewarded!
